Hi, My name is Justin Barthel. I am a seventeen year old Eagle Scout from St.Johns, FL. I am in Troop 280 of the North Florida Council. During the month of July, I participated in the National Scout Jamboree, where I’m in Troop 4308. It had to be one of my favorite scouting experiences. The first day, my jamboree troop did service for a recreational center by raking up their leaves. It was more work than you would think and took over five hours, but it was worth it to see the smiles of their faces.

The following day, we went whitewater rafting where we rode against massive currents and the roaring water. I later conquered the Big Zip, a zip line that was 3/4 of a mile long that went 50 mph. At the jamboree, I spent most of my time earning merit badges like Genealogy, Radio, and Scuba Diving.

But the highlight of my experience was to see President Trump give a speech honoring the Boy Scouts, which was only two hundred feet away from where I was sitting. Despite what the news has said about his speech, I felt he gave a great presentation on honoring the Boy Scouts of America. It was a great way to end my boy scout career before I age out, when I turn 18 in April. All and all this jamboree was loads of fun and I would recommend many future scouts to participate in this amazing national event
